If you’re a single mom, you’re no stranger to hardship and difficulty. That means that this summer when things are looking a little different and it’s less likely you can travel because of COVID-19, you’re likely equipped to problem solve. You know that you’ll need to organize a staycation for your family, but what should that entail? If you’re a single mom looking to keep your family safe while still having a little fun with both them and for yourself, here are five amazing tips.
1. Keep your outside activities safe for your little ones.
The number one thing you should keep in mind when planning your staycation is that, even though you’re staying home, there are still dangerous situations for your kids that you should account for. One such danger is your backyard pool.
Make sure you install a pool fence in your swimming pool to keep your younger children from swimming to parts of the pool that are too deep for them to comfortably swim in. A safety pool fence keeps everyone safe without limiting the fun for anyone, and mesh pool fences make certain that the water can travel easily to both sides of the fence.
2. Turn your backyard into a carnival.
If you’re feeling creative and really want to have some fun, try your hand at turning your yard into a fun carnival for you and the kids. Set out a few different options for yard games, like bocce, horseshoes, or bags. These types of yard games can elicit some fun competition between your family members and create the feeling of being at a fun outdoor carnival. You may even consider renting a bounce house, trampoline, obstacle course, or a slide to add some physical fun in with the games. Your kids will be thrilled to have a funfair or carnival in their very own yard!
3. Conduct a scavenger hunt in your hometown.
Staycations are the perfect opportunity to explore the city or town in which you live. You can get your whole family involved by creating a scavenger hunt that takes you to different places around your hometown. There may even be places or neighborhoods on your list that you or your family have never visited, so you can “be a tourist” in your own town. Similar to the backyard carnival, a scavenger hunt could create some family-friendly competition among your children, so they will be sure to remember it.
4. Have a fancy meal delivered to your home.
One of the best parts of going on vacation is eating out and trying new types of foods and restaurants. You can still make your staycation feel special in terms of dining by ordering a fancy meal for pick up or to be delivered to your home. With the extra money saved from not traveling, you can really splurge and treat your whole family.
5. Don’t forget about treating yourself.
As a single mom, it is likely that you don’t do a whole lot for yourself all the time. A staycation is a perfect opportunity for you to treat yourself, like buying yourself a chic new outfit. Buy yourself a fabulous dress that shows off all the best parts of your body to make you feel sexy and confident. Bonus points are in order for reversible dresses, which have all the best looks of a dress but with reversible ways to wear them! That’s two looks for the price of one. Opt for a reversible dress with a flattering neckline in a lightweight summer fabric, and you’ll feel pretty and pampered in no time.
